Job Outsourcing to Outside Employees - Can They Do the Job?

By Michele Graham

Great Tip! Not outsourcing at all. An employee from the East moves to the West and works at a company.

In todays' world, a large percentage of people want to have a job that has them working from home. Everyone of them has their own reason but only a small percentage of them would make an effective "at home" employee.

In order for a person to be an effective "work at home" employee, they must have certain aspects of their personal life in order. To begin with, they must have a designated workplace within their home. A corner or a room specifically allocated as a work space is absolutely necessary. The area to work from needs to be free of noise and distraction

As a "work at home" employee, you cannot have children or neighbors disturbing your work process. Your friends or children would not be distracting you if you were "in" the office and you cannot let them affect you in your "work at home office".

Depending on your employee-employer contract will determine how you perform your job duties at home. There are several ways that employers determine a pay scale for work at home employees.

By the Piece:

Piece work means that you, the employee with have to produce X number of pieces in order to get paid and you are paid by the piece. Many small manufacturing companies outsource "assembly" type jobs to work at home employees. As an example, circuit board assembly is usually paid for by the finished piece. So if you are paid $1.00 for each completed piece, you would need to complete at least 10 or more per hour to get a decent wage for yourself.

Great Tip! Evaluate your partnership strategy. Many smaller and mid-sized firms are attracted to the deep expertise and capabilities of the large outsourcing companies, yet often find their services cost-prohibitive.

By the Project:

Some companies will outsource projects that can take anywhere from a week to a month to complete. The employer usually has a price in mind for this project and will have you sing a contract stating that you will accept a predetermined fee for completing this project. The time it takes you to complete the project will determine how much money you really are making.

By the Hour:

Companies that pay you hourly for a work at home job are the best for you and the worst for the employer. Unless you are a work at home person with work ethic, you could be a risk for the employer. By work ethic, I mean that you work without stopping just as you would if your employer was right over your shoulder. You don't take personal calls, you don't take numerous breaks, you don't waste time. Most employers know exactly how much should be accomplished in an 8 hour day, so if you do not perform to their preset production volume, you won't be an employee for long.

To be able to work at home and make money, whatever method that your employer chooses to use, you should be the best at what you do. Put yourself in the place of the employer. What would you expect if the tables were turned?

Great Tip! Complete contact info for outsourcing firm: This is obvious that no one would want to deal without knowing where this guy or firm is from. Believe me there are hundreds, if not thousand, of websites offering great services without even a phone number or address! Be careful and look the whois records to double check.
